Anniversary Film Fest 2017 – this is how it went!

Anniversary Film Fest 2017 – this is how it went!

What a Film Festival for our 5th anniversary! The weather was weighted towards delightful Autumn sunshine and this year’s visitors came execptionally plentifully. With over 2.000 guests, WITHOUT BOARDERS once again clearly lured more film fans to the ‘culture barn’ than the previous year. ‘Good news’ was not only the motto of the festival but also the echo of the top-class movie schedule and the numerous prominent guests. From the outset at the grand opening on Friday evening we were able to  greet Ronald Zehrfeld with his team from ‘Motorcircus’, that helped present his project ‘Mission South/ Ärzte helfen e.V’. The greeting of the official anniversary celebrations on Saturday was held by Kirsten Niehuus, the managing director of the `Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg`. She praised not only the development of the festival but to our delight also announced a further grant for the coming five years. The films – of which many were sneak-preview premiers – were accompanied by plenty of film discussions. A particular highlight was the extensive conversation...

Without Borders – Guest of Honour 2017: Georg Stefan Troller

Without Borders – Guest of Honour 2017: Georg Stefan Troller

It is our great honour to welcome the ‘Centenary Journalist’ Georg Stefan Troller to this year’s film fest.  Gero von Boehm will speak to the 95-year-old about his moving life. As a child of Jewish parents who barely escaped deportation, Troller has as long as he can remember had a great interest in people and their history which made them who they were. In the 60s Troller reported for the Paris Journal. For over 20 years) he brought personal descriptions alive for ZDF (‘Second German Television’). Troller’s radical, subjective style of interviewing sometimes polarises but is character-defining for the newly developed medium of television. Likewise, Troller wrote books and made a name for himself through his documentaries. We are thrilled the famous documentary maker, author and journalist is our guest in the culture-barn and able to present his film ‘Difficulties with displaying the truth’. Foto: @ Norbert...

‘Good News’

‘Good News’

This year’s film festival is dedicated to ‘Good News’.  Bad – and false – news about violence, destruction of the environment and political wrongdoing is constantly being reported. That is why it is so important for us to also focus on good every now and again. Not in order to practice positive thinking, but to show that wherever evil grows, good always grows too. Humaneness, a readiness to help. The will to oppose the wrong. Good news comes from a full human pioneering spirit. From that comes finding a solution to a problem. Good News starts with human perseverance against resistance; with the ability to see the beautiful; with the faith in a better future; with the chance to change oneself or the path of history; to make the world better, even if only in small steps.  Whoever doesn’t start has already given up. All of these things should be reflected in our films and discussions this year. We warmly invite you to come! Your Festival...
